Two days ago, during a snow storm with temperatures hovering around fifteen below zero, we filmed with a couple from Missoula, Montana and their cattle dog, Kadoogan. They rode a 2010 Ural through the streets of town, past eight-foot berms of snow on rough, unplowed streets. Hanging out of the back of an SUV, we shot some great footage of the trio. We will follow up throughout the next couple of months to further document this adorable, hardy, family-on-three-wheels.
Eric Ristau and Geneva Liimatta are a husband-wife filmmaking team in Missoula, Montana.
The crew consists of Captain and Godfrey– two rescued labradoodle mixes. The family motorcycle is a 1974 BMW R75/6 with a Spirit of America sidecar. The dogs are slowly learning to ride– they both like to take their time with new things.
Several months ago, we began production on a new documentary film about two our life passions: dogs and sidecar motorcycles. As the fanatical owners of two labradoodle mixes, and owners of a 1974 BMW R75/6 with a Spirit of America sidecar, it was a match made in heaven. We have been professional documentary filmmakers for a number of years, mostly working for clients– from Arctic expeditions to the Democratic Republic of Congo we have shot films in interesting and extreme conditions. Now, we are making a film as a labor of love, focusing on America’s sidecar dogs– and their human co-pilots.
We have shot a number of interviews on the West Coast and plan to move East over the next couple months, capturing more stories of sidecar pilots and their four-legged companions. Stay tuned for details.
